Young’s Seafood has snapped up UK-based The Seafood Company for an undisclosed sum.
Young’s acquired the specialist shellfish business from Canada’s Fishery Products International.
The Seafood Company is made of two businesses – Anchor Seafood and The Cromer Crab Company. In total, the group generates annual sales of around GBP70m (US$142m).
A Young’s spokesperson told just-food this morning (27 July) that The Seafood Company is a good fit for the business.
“Young’s is looking to expand its expertise of buying products, particularly shellfish, internationally,” the spokesperson said.

By GlobalDataShellfish sales are booming in the UK; according to ACNielsen figures to the end of May, chilled natural shellfish sales soared by 43% to GBP14.8m.
The Seafood Company supplies a range of products including frozen and chilled shellfish products and chilled and frozen prawns.
The spokesperson said Young’s intends to “run the businesses exactly as they are” with no initial impact on jobs.
