UK luxury chocolate maker Elizabeth Shaw is branching out into biscuits as it seeks to fill a gap in the market for an adult range.

In what the company calls its indulgent range, the biscuits are covered in Elizabeth Shaw’s premium chocolate and will be available at supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury’s in October. The 140 gramme packs come in four flavours: raisin & hazelnut, coconut & hazelnut, mint & cocoa, and raisin & cocoa.

Managing director Karen Crawford said: “Elizabeth Shaw have been keen to enter into the biscuits category for some time and are excited about this new venture. There’s a gap in the market for an innovative premium and indulgent offering for adults, from a trusted British brand.”

Citing 2016 research from Mintel, the company said the number of people eating biscuits at least once a week has increased to 62%, while the so-called special treats’ biscuit category has increased 5%.
