A spokesperson for the Co-op told just-food that it had yet to make any redundancies but confirmed its bid to improve efficiency at its food unit by revamping its back-end operations is “ongoing”.

“There have been redundancies as part of this initiative,” the spokesperson said. “We are continuing to restructure our food business to make it more efficient, profitable and consumer focused.”

The spokesperson added the group’s restructuring efforts have had a “definite” impact on profitability.

The Co-op will release its full-year results next week.
