UK retailer The Co-operative Group expects to double sales of own-label Fairtrade chocolate as it rolls out the range to its recently-acquired Somerfield stores.
It is anticipated that annual sales will rise from GBP5m (US$7.2m) to GBP10m, the retailer said.
The retailer will give its range a “major makeover” as it is introduced to 3,000 Somerfield stores in the UK. The relaunched range will feature a wider choice of pack sizes, new recipes and new packaging designs.
Two premium Truly Irresistible chocolate products will also be introduced this month.
In order to meet higher sales volumes, the Co-op said that it will source Fairtrade cocoa from the Dominican Republic for the first time.
