UK retailer The Co-operative Group has appointed marketer David Magliano as its brand director.
Magliano, who has worked as director of sales and marketing for airlines, easyJet and Go, will take up the newly-created role with immediate effect, the retailer said today (15 March).
He will report into the group’s director of marketing Gill Barr and have responsibility for all developmental aspects of the brand and its communication across the group’s family of businesses, including food, banking, insurance, and pharmacy. His remit will also include digital media, social media and sponsorship.
“These are exciting times for The Co-operative in terms of maintaining the momentum we’ve seen in recent years and delivering plans which are anchored around meeting customers’ needs. David will play a key role in this and we are delighted that he is joining us,” said Barr.
Last month, the Co-op announced plans to cut hundreds of back-office roles in a bid to increase profits from its food business. The cuts came a month after Steve Murrells, the chief executive of UK meat processor Tulip, became CEO of The Co-op’s food retail business.
