He replaces Matthew Shaw, who is leaving Bart Spices to recover fully from the back surgery he had last year. Shaw, who joined Bart Spices in 2003, will remain a shareholder in the business.

Steven Esom, Bart Spices’ chairman and operating partner at the company’s owner Langholm Capital, said: “Matthew’s contribution has been extensive, we are sorry to see him go and wish him a swift and complete recovery.”

Esom said Collard had an “energy” that would “continue to drive this growing business forward”. He added: “We have a number of exciting developments for Bart over the coming months and years, David’s experience and flair will mean we can successfully implement them whilst maintaining our reputation for quality and service.”

Collard, who also spent over 16 years working for Kerry Group, said he was “very excited” about his new role.
