The Co-operative Group has today (19 March) announced a string of management changes at its business.
The UK retailer, which has endured months of negative headlines, including the resignation of its CEO last week, has created a new position of chief operating officer among a number of other senior-level appointments, including a new chief strategy officer.

The new COO will overseeing finance, procurement, IT, risk and “transformation delivery”. The UK’s number five grocer has not appointed someone to this role yet but, in the meantime, Richard Pennycook, will fill the position.
CFO Pennycook was last week named The Co-op’s interim chief executive after CEO Euan Sutherland following the leaking of his pay package.
Paula Kerrigan, director of group strategy, becomes chief strategy officer.
Steve Murrells, CEO of The Co-op’s retail arm, will maintain responsibility for the company’s food, pharmacy, farms and e-store divisions but will also lead its property and estates.

Pennycook said: “I am pleased to be announcing these changes to our management team, which mean we are better positioned to tackle the complex issues we face.
“We are focused on the hard work needed to complete the development of our new strategy. This is the right team to deliver that strategy in the interests of all our
stakeholders – customers, colleagues and members.”
