Dairy Crest, the UK’s largest dairy processor, has added to its stable of cheese brands with the launch of Davidstow Cheddar.

The cheese, which was previously only available as an own-label ‘named creamery’ line comprises Cornish Classic Mature Cheddar and Cornish Crackler Extra Mature Cheddar, and is available in Sainsbury’s.

Dairy Crest marketing director Paul Fraser said: “Launching the Davidstow brand provides us with a platform to grow the named creamery sector by offering authentic provenance to consumers and a genuine signpost brand. We will invest more on brand-building activity for Davidstow in the future and we are confident it is going to be a key growth opportunity for us and our retail partners. We also want to raise awareness of the Davidstow Creamery and add value to the category.”

Dairy Crest said it will continue to invest and support its Davidstow own-label products, as well as driving the “long term success” of the brand.
