The facility mainly caters for the packaging of milk in plastic bottles and its smaller glass bottling operation will be closed, the company told just-food today (2 December).

“This is a small part of our milk bottling operations. Consultations started a fortnight ago and changes should be implemented after Christmas,” the spokesperson said.

The company added that there are around 34 posts that may be affected by the closure but that it was hoping to redeploy the majority of those into other roles within the rest of the site.

“We have three glass bottling plants and all three have been very productive. This has freed up capacity and will enable us to save money,” the spokesperson added.

The group’s turnover was down 1% at GBP803.7m, but chief executive Mark Allen insisted the company has had a “strong six months”.
