UK-based dairy firm Futura Foods’ plans to hire more workers for its new cheese processing plant in Wales, which is now fully operational.

The facility is located in Minffordd, north Wales, and is due to be awarded BRC AA accreditation. Futura said the plant will give the company added-value processing capacity and will produce Continental cheeses such as feta, halloumi and Italian varieties. The number of new hires was not disclosed in a statement.

Managing director Hans Christiansen said in a statement: “Futura Foods is delighted to announce that our state-of-the-art added-value cheese cutting and packing site in Minffordd has been independently audited this week and will be awarded BRC AA accreditation. I am immensely proud of the team who have worked extremely hard at this challenging time to achieve this in a short space of time.”

Futura is owned by privately-run Danish dairy firm Nordex Food Group and counts the brands Yamas and Taverna in its portfolio. It supplies both the retail and foodservice channels.

Last year, Futura bought cheese manufacturer GRH Food Company, based in Gwynedd, Wales, out of administration.

The statement continued: “Customer response to our plans has been extremely positive, we are delighted with the feedback and with the commitment and enthusiasm shown by our team in north Wales. We are fully operational and increasing production in line with our customer needs both here in the UK and in export markets, through our parent company Nordex Food Group.”
