Family Circle magazine today announced the launch of its ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ Campaign.  The initiative is set to build on Family Circle’s strong commitment to food and family values and has been designed to stimulate children’s interest in cooking.  Since its redesign in March 2000, Family Circle has focused on building its presence and reputation within the marketplace as leader in understanding the needs and concerns of its readers.

The focus of the Kids in the Kitchen Campaign is the creation of a children’s cookery book.  The ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ cookery book will be available nation-wide from October 2001.  All proceeds from the book will be donated to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital – a charity with strong emotional appeal for Family Circle readers.

“We are delighted to be launching this campaign”, said Gillian Carter, editor at Family Circle magazine.  “By introducing an element of fun into the daily cooking routine we hope to engage children’s interest and enable them to discover more about the world of food and cooking”.

According to Carter, Family Circle recognises that there is a whole generation of mothers who are concerned that their children aren’t learning the life skills they will need in the future.  With this in mind, the magazine hopes that the campaign provides readers with the tools to help redresses that situation.

Ros Cliffe, head of communication at Great Ormond Street Hospital comments:  “Family Circle has shown a true understanding of families and their needs, especially with reference to the demands of families with seriously ill children. We are really excited that Family Circle has chosen to donate the proceeds from this innovative project to Great Ormond Street Hospital.”

The campaign also positively encourages interactivity amongst children, inviting them to write in and enter their recipes into a nation-wide competition. The tastiest and most interesting ideas will be featured in the Kids in the Kitchen cookery book or in the August edition of Family Circle magazine.

Family Circle Magazine is a monthly magazine aimed at ABC1 mothers, with children aged 7 and older. The ‘Kids in the Kitchen Campaign’ will run for 6 months and proceeds from the campaign will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
