A fire at a Heinz site in the UK that produces Aunt Bessie’s frozen potato products has halted production.
The “major” blaze at Heinz’s Westwick site happened on Friday evening (6 May), the company confirmed to just-food.
No employees were injured and the fire, which Heinz said was “largely confined to one production area” was put out by the fire services.
A Heinz spokesman said production would not resume “until a full assessment can be made of the incident”.
Responding to questions about Heinz planned to continue to supply its retail customers, the spokesman added: “Although we have stocks in store we are taking all possible actions to minimise the potential impact on customers and consumers, and have a senior management team in place managing every aspect of our full recovery plan.”
Heinz produces Aunt Bessie’s products under licence from Aunt Bessie’s Ltd, which is part of William Jackson Food Group.
