DFB, which accounted for 10% of the UK’s milk supply when it fell into administration, collapsed last month after the co-operative’s moves to revamp the business failed to stem losses.

Suppliers to DFB switched to other dairy groups, including First Milk, which paid those who joined its business its “standard litre price” for June and July.

However, First Milk said yesterday (30 July) that weak spot milk prices mean it has to lower the price it pays to the ex-DFB suppliers.

“Based on the returns we are securing from the marketplace, it is necessary to reduce your standard litre milk price to 18.65ppl from 1 August,” First Milk wrote in a letter to suppliers.
