Food output prices climbed 11.8% in the 12 months to June, the fastest rise since 1986, the ONS said.
The jump also contributed to the highest annual increase in UK producer prices since 1986. Prices charged by UK manufacturers increased by 10% and were up 0.9% from May, thanks to more expensive petroleum products, the data showed.
Of the nine categories measured by the ONS, the growth of food factory-gate prices in the year to June was the second fastest, beaten only by petroleum.
The price of prepared and preserved potatoes rose 4.7%, while fresh and preserved meat prices were up 3.6%, the ONS said.
