According to data compiled by research company TNS, the market grew by 3.4% in the year to 9 September.

“Remarkably, in a difficult year for retailers, frozen is growing from strength to strength as growth has accelerated from 1.7% to 2.8% and now hitting 3.4% year-over-year growth,” the BFFF said.

However, the BFFF reported that the ice cream sector, which had been showing growth for the last five quarters, experienced a 1.6% downturn year-on-year as a result of the poor summer weather.

Apart from that, the BFFF said “virtually every category” in the sector was showing “substantial growth year over year”.
