The move comes after an investigation by consumer magazine Which? found that some poultry is being repackaged and relabelled with new use-by dates and then being sold as fresh meat, reported the Guardian.

A source in the government’s Meat Hygiene Service told Which? that at least one chicken processing plant has been repackaging and relabelling meat before selling it on as fresh meat.

Which? said it was concerned that this practice could result in quality and safety issues, and could even result in unfit meat being sold to consumers.
