The Scotland-based business, which employs more than 20,000 people in Europe and Asia, was said to be the subject of a possible sale, according to local reports.

Earlier this week, The Scotsman newspaper reported that chairman Alfred Duncan had appointed advisers to find a buyer for the company.

However, a spokesman for Grampian Foods told just-food the report was “factually incorrect” and “based on rumours and speculation”.

When asked if he could rule out that Grampian Foods could soon be put on the block, the spokesman said: “There is always lots of rumours and speculation and we don’t pass comment on those sorts of things.”
