London, November 23, 2001 (ResearchWire) – The British government has cleared Richmond Frozen Confectionary’s purchase of Nestle’s UK ice cream division, giving it a more substantial presence in the market. While some of Nestle’s brands, such as Fab and Rowntree Fruit Pastilles, have been losing market share, the market continues to grow. In 2005, Brits will spend more than GBP1.6 billion on ice cream. However, Richmond may face similar problems to Nestle: Unilever’s dominance of the market makes it hard for competitors to make any serious impact.
