The sale of the Somerset business comes just days after DFB fell into administration. Receivers PricewaterhouseCoopers said Lubborn Cheese had not been placed into receivership, which had allowed the unit to be sold.

DFB receiver and manager David Kelly said: “Lactalis McLelland were an obvious acquirer of the Lubborn business and emerged as the most credible buyer following a carefully managed process run by our corporate finance team over a number of months.”

Lactalis McLelland, the company behind the Seriously brand, is taking on a business that makes a range of soft cheese, including Somerset Brie, Somerset Camembert and Capricorn goat’s cheese.

Another DFB business, Llandyrnog Creamery, looks set to be bough by UK cheese and dairy group Milk Link.
