UK food producer Bombay Halwa, owned by ethnic cuisine industry veteran Lord Noon, has launched a range of Halal frozen ready meals for its domestic market.
Bombay Halwa said the Royal Halal range has been produced primarily for the UK’s Muslim community. The ready meals – saag chicken, chicken tikka masala, kadhai chicken and butter chicken – will all have a baghara rice as an accompaniment.
In addition, the company has launched Royal Paranthas, slices of bread that can be toasted as a side dish to the meals. The range is available through various independent retailers and cash-and-carry stores. Bombay Halwa said it is in advanced talks with multiples and supermarkets for potential listings.
“We have been closely surveying and monitoring the market for a few years now and know that the word ‘Halal’ has become very buoyant in the Muslim community,” said Bombay Halwa chairman and managing director Lord Noon. “The Royal Halal dishes are mainly targeted at this community, but are not necessarily only for them. These are indeed for anyone who likes quality meat dishes.”
Noon said the firm would like to secure distribution not only in the UK, but in Europe and the Middle East also.
Bombay Halwa’s Royal brand also includes Indian sweets, savoury snacks, pickles, chutneys and sauces.
