The company, which operates in the chilled and frozen categories, is planning a move into the brined shellfish market through the launch of a range of Lyons branded products. These will include Extra Large Hand Peeled Coldwater Prawns and Extra Large Crayfish Tails.

Lyons is targeting the manufacturing and retail sectors, commercial director Paul Vita said. “The new brined product range will appeal across the manufacturing and retail sectors with increasing numbers of health-conscious consumers eating prawns and crayfish out of home. Both products benefit from being naturally low in fat and high in Omega 3 and Vitamins.”

The new Lyons Seafoods range will focus on quality rather than price, Vita added.

“The brined shellfish market in the UK is currently driven by a low-price and low-quality spiral,” Vita said. “This is at odds with what is happening in chilled and frozen shellfish and does not reflect what consumers want.”
