Johnston McNeill, Chief Executive of the Meat Hygiene Service, is to become Chief Executive of the Common Agricultural Policy Paying Agency (CAPPA). Commenting on the move, the Chairman of the Food Standards Agency, Professor Sir John Krebs said:

“We are very sorry to be losing the services of Johnston McNeill as Chief Executive of the Meat Hygiene Service (MHS) when he takes up his new position with CAPPA in January next year. Although I have worked with Johnston only since April this year, I have been impressed with his great drive and determination, and enormous personal contribution to the success of the MHS. I know he deserves much credit for the achievements of the MHS in its first year (1995) to which the Phillips Enquiry pays tribute. Since then he has been an exceptional Chief Executive in a very demanding post.”
