UK dairy co-op Milk Link plans to “upgrade” two production facilities to meet “growing demand” for its cheese.

Milk Link said it would spend GBP2.4m (US$3.8m) on its cheese cutting and packing plant in Oswestry and its creamery in Llandyrnog.

The bulk of the investment, GBP2m, has been spent on a new line at the Oswestry site to improve packing rates. A whey desalination plant will be set up at the creamery in Llandyrnog to remove salt from whey solids, which will then be processed into ingredients.

“This latest equipment will deliver a range of benefits including consistent quality and service for our customers, improved yields and reduced wastage,” Carl Ravenhall, MD of Milk Link’s cheese business unit, said.
