Asda was required to dispose of a number of the Netto stores after its acquisition of the discount operator’s UK outlets from Dansk Supermarked.

In a statement released yesterday (24 May), Morrisons said that it expects to convert the outlets to its banner within the next three months.

“These additional stores are an important next step in Morrisons’ growth. We are building on our strategy to bring Morrisons’ unique offer of freshly prepared, affordable food to more people in Britain,” Morrisons retail director Mark Harrison said.

Morrisons has previously indicated its desire to expand its selling space and has recently been linked to a potential bid for a majority stake in frozen food retailer Iceland Foods.
