Bolland, currently COO of Heineken NV and responsible for brand and marketing strategy at the Dutch brewery, will make the move from Amsterdam to Yorkshire in time to start duties on 1 September, in place of retiring Morrisons CEO Bob Stott.
Bolland said: “This is a great opportunity for me to head one of the UK’s leading companies, and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
In addition, the company’s deputy chairman David Jones has announced his retirement as director by the end of the month, in what is two weeks after Sir Ken Morrison announced his 2008 retirement as chairman and director.
Morrison said: “I am delighted to have appointed Marc Bolland as chief executive of Morrisons. Marc has a wealth of experience operating in a highly competitive consumer products sector and also brings extensive commercial and leadership skills to the group which will ensure its continued progress.”
