Directors of the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, Morrisons, have reportedly threatened to quit due to a dispute regarding the appointment of a new company CEO.

Non-executive directors could tender their resignations if a new boss is not announced by the company’s annual meeting on 25 May, reported the Scotsman newspaper.

When contacted by just-food, Morrisons spokesperson Colin Middlemiss said: “We are looking for the right person and no deadline has been put aside as yet.”

Another report by the Times newspaper claimed that Morrisons had ruled out internal candidates for a replacement for current CEO Bobb Stott. But Middlemiss said that Morrisons is considering “the right person”, whether it be from inside or outside the company.

Yesterday (27 March), just-food reported on the rift between chairman Sir Kan Morrison, who favours the appointment of a Morrisons old-hand, and the company’s non-executive directors, who feel fresh blood is needed to get the company back on track.
