UK supermarket retailer Morrisons has withdrawn sliced cold meats from at two of its stores in Scotland following an e-coli outbreak in the area that has killed one person.

The retailer said it was withdrawing the products as a “precautionary measure”, until the source of the infection had been determined.
The Public Health Protection Unit (PHPU) of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is investigating the outbreak of e-coli 0157, working in collaboration with Renfrewshire Council Environmental Health, the Food Standards Agency and Health Protection Scotland.
Morrison said in a statement: “We are currently working closely with the authorities and although the full facts are not yet known, we have, as a precautionary measure, withdrawn sliced cold meat products from sale at the delicatessen counters of two stores in Paisley, Scotland (Lonend and Falside Road).
“We advise anyone who has bought sliced cold meat products locally from the delicatessen counters in these two stores not to consume them.”

So far, one elderly woman has died during the outbreak, while two other people are seriously ill.
