Morrisons CEO Dalton Philips has continued to stamp his mark on the executive team at the UK retailer with the announcement of four senior management appointments this morning (6 January).

Philips, who took over from Marc Bolland in March last year, has created three new roles and made one internal promotion. The appointments, Morrisons said, have been made in a bid “further strengthen the strategic and commercial capabilities” of the group’s senior team.

Belinda Youngs, previously chief marketing officer for Canadian retailer Sobeys, has been appointed own-brand director. Nick Collard, former Boots brand director, has been named commercial director of ambient and frozen. Both will report to Richard Hodgson, Morrisons’ group commercial director.

Gordon Mowat has joined Morrisons from McKinsey & Company where he was one of the leaders of their European consumer goods and retail practice. He takes up the role of strategy director.

In addition, Richard Lancaster has been promoted to the role of marketing director. He takes over from Angus Maciver who has left the business to “pursue other opportunities”.

Philips said: “I am delighted to welcome Belinda, Gordon and Nick to Morrisons. They are outstanding business people and together represent a big step forward in the strength of our operational and strategic capabilities and the pace at which we can execute. We also continue to develop internal talent with an individual of the calibre of Richard Lancaster becoming marketing director. I’m confident they will all make an immediate impact in their new roles.”
