Müller Dairy UK has informed staff that 55 potential redundancies are to be made across its UK and Ireland operations.

The yoghurt maker said it could not confirm in which facilities the job losses would be made, but the company has only one production facility in the UK, based in Market Drayton. Other functions such as sales are located in Ireland.

However, a spokesperson for Muller told just-food: “Potential job losses are across a number of different functions and levels in the UK and Ireland.”

The company said in a statement: “We need to remain competitive in a difficult economic climate. As costs continue to rise, particularly raw materials, we must continually review our cost base and our efficiencies in order to remain strong.”

Muller said it has informed all staff of the situation and is now in consultation with them through an ’employee forum’. The consultation period is expected to close at the end of the year.
