NFU President Ben Gill will this morning update the Prime Minister on the current situation with foot and mouth.

Mr Gill will attend the meeting with representatives from several farming organisations, including farming leaders NFU Cymru Wales President Hugh Richards, NFU Scotland President Jim Walker and Douglas Rowe, President of Ulster Farmers’ Union.


The 11.30am Downing Street meeting will cover the current welfare scheme and the new foot and mouth outbreaks.


Mr Gill says: “It is vitally important to keep the Prime Minister fully informed of the situation, and of the many problems the farming community is facing.


“The countryside is in crisis and we want to make sure this terrible disease remains at the top of the Government’s agenda.”
