Northern Foods today (18 July) told the company’s shareholders that the UK group’s performance is line with the company’s expectations.
Northern Foods, which produces brands including Goodfella’s pizza and Fox’s biscuits, said underlying sales rose by 2.6% during the company’s first quarter to 30 June.
Sales of the company’s chilled products rose over 5% thanks to stronger sales of ready meals, which offset a decline in sandwiches and salads. Northern Foods’ frozen business grew sales by 1.1%.
The company’s bakery business has suffered with sales down 2.6%.
“Trading conditions have remained challenging and the management of increases in commodity prices remains a key focus,” Northern Foods chairman Anthony Hobson told the company’s AGM.
