PepsiCo has insisted that former footballer Gary Lineker will remain central to Walkers latest ad campaign, despite reports that he will be taking a back seat.

Reports suggested that ex-England captain Lineker will be retaining his brand ambassador role for Walkers but would be less prominent in the forthcoming ad campaign.

However, PepsiCo stressed that the reports were inaccurate and that Lineker’s role has not changed.

“There is no change whatsoever to Gary Lineker’s role or relationship with Walkers Crisps. He plays a crucial role in our next ‘Three Simple Things’ ad campaign to be released in September,” PepsiCo said today (15 August).

The latest advertising campaign will focus on the “The Three Things” that make up Walkers crisps – 100% British potatoes, Sunseed oil, which PepsiCo says is naturally lower in saturates, and seasonings that contain no artificial colours or preservatives.

The campaign has been devised to “strengthen the brand’s popularity and drive long-term growth”. PepsiCo has will also feature a packaging redesign, alongside a TV advert and in-store marketing.
