Police are investigating after a threat was made against a United Biscuits plant in Glasgow.

A letter threatening to contaminate biscuits was sent to the plant, which makes McVitie’s biscuits, including the Rich Tea and Hobnobs brands. According to BBC News Online, a forensic examination of the factory, which employs 750 people, is being carried out.

“We can confirm that Strathclyde Police is currently investigating a threat to disrupt the manufacturing process at United Biscuits factory in Tolcross, Glasgow,” a police spokesman told the BBC.

“At this stage, no direct evidence of contamination of any product has been found,” he added.
