A UK union representing poultry workers has warned that supplies to major supermarkets could be hit if strike action goes ahead at Two Sisters Food Group, one of the country’s biggest poultry companies.

“We’re hoping that the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda will be affected if this strike goes ahead,” a spokesperson for Unite, the union representing the workers, told just-food today (28 November).
Unite is preparing a strike ballot after pay negotiations with the company – which have been ongoing since June – failed to lead to an agreement.
Unite said that the talks were held up and disrupted by Two Sisters’ refusal to disclose any financial information.
The company proposed a pay settlement of GBP214 (US$272.6) for a 37.5 hour week week, just eight pence above minimum wage. This has been rejected as “a shocking level of payment” by Unite.
“We have been forced into this action, which will hit supermarket shelves and a Sunday lunch favourite. This is not our preferred choice of route to resolve this outstanding pay dispute and beat poverty pay,” Joe Clarke, Unite regional industrial organiser, said.
