UK discount retailer Poundworld has opened is first Express convenience store in the country.
The 1,500 square foot store, which opened yesterday (24 November) in the city of Bradford will stock over 1,000 products, including crisps, drinks and groceries.
The store is a new concept, the company said. However, Poundworld was not available for immediate comment on how many of these stores it plans to open.
Poundworld was founded as a multi price retailer under the name of Bargain Centre in 1974. In 1997, its first single-price store opened under the name of ‘Everything’s £1’ before being re-branded to Poundworld in 2004. The retailer now has over 120 stores across the UK.
Earlier this month, IGD released its latest figures at its Convenience Retail Conference and said the UK food and grocery convenience sector is set to grow to by more than a quarter in five years time.
