“Although it is too early to assess the extent of the damage, the business is comprehensively covered by insurance both for loss of assets and business disruption after a £1m (US$1.8m) excess,” the company said.

The factory at Bury St Edmunds produces Branston sweet and sour pickles, Haywards pickles, Waistline, Loyd Grossman sauces and a range of own label table and cooking sauces.

The company said it was assessing the situation and would make a further announcement as soon as possible.
