The Ultimate Food Company, a UK Christmas pudding maker that has been in business for more than 30 years, has ceased trading and its 20-strong workforce has been made redundant.
Kendal, Lake District-based The Ultimate Food Company made puddings and sponge cakes, as well as rum and brandy butters, dessert sauces, and chutneys under the Demel brand.

Ultimate made puddings under the Famous Grouse whisky brand under licence.
Ian McCulloch and Dean Watson of Begbies Traynor have been appointed joint administrators and said the company’s demise was due to a “number of issues”.
McCulloch said: “We are currently in the process of marketing the business and assets for sale and should there be any interested parties then please get in touch.”

The company, which also traded as The Ultimate Plum Pudding Company, was placed into administration on 5 February.
