UK retailer Sainsbury’s has named Tesco executive Dido Harding as its convenience director.

Harding will join Sainsbury’s next spring after six years at rival grocer Tesco, where she is currently CEO of the company’s “development programme”.

Harding is set to replace Lawrence Christensen who has been in charge of Sainsbury’s convenience store network for two years.

Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King said the company’s expansion in the UK convenience channel had been an important part of the company’s growth.

King said: “We’ve made great progress over the past three years, both through acquisitions and also new store openings, but we know there is further potential.”
