UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is to replace its entire trolley fleet to suit the needs of taller shoppers.
The company has ordered more than 280,000 new trolleys with higher handles to be delivered over five years, reported the Guardian.
“There’s no doubt that more of our customers are now built like John Wayne rather than Ronnie Corbett. The average British shopper is getting taller,” Fiona Eden, the chain’s trolley buyer, was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
Although British women today are, on average, 4cm taller than their 1950s counterparts, the increasing height of shoppers is also due to the fact that more men go shopping for groceries than before.
