The training program is designed to inform staff on how to make healthy, nutritionally sound choices themselves, allowing them to communicate this information to customers.

“It’s a program we’ll be rolling out shortly,” Sainsbury’s spokeswoman Parven Johal told just-food. “Health is something that’s very important to us and increasingly customers are interested in what they are eating. There is an array of choices in store and increasingly customers have lots of questions on… [for example] organics. We want our staff to be able to provide information on the various healthy or organic options.”

Nutrition experts will initially work in 50 stores across the UK, but the scheme is intended to be offered throughout the entire organisation.
