The company has suspended manufacturing on four production lines following traces of salmonella contamination. The bacteria was found in chocolate products, “most likely from a batch of Brazil nuts”, Fox’s said.

Chief executive Mario Giannotta said: “No affected product whatsoever was released and that stocks on retailers’ shelves are completely safe and they can be totally confident in the ongoing quality of our products.”

Fox’s said it has worked with the UK’s Food Standards Agency to clean the affected areas of the plant. Production is expected to restart later this week.
