(i) the amount payable for a confirmed case and;

(ii) such sum as appears to be, having regard to any evidence provided by the owner of the animal slaughtered, to reflect the market value of the animal, subject to a maximum sum of £400 for each animal.

The compensation rate has been determined by reference to the average cull ewe market price and the numbers of animals sold in Great Britain in the month of July 2000, as published in the Meat and Livestock Commission weekly UK Market Survey.
