UK: Scrapie Compensation

Compensation payable for sheep or goats slaughtered as a suspected animal in the month of September 2000 will be: - £15.81 if scrapie is confirmed by post mortem, and for cases subsequently confirmed as unaffected whatever is the greater of - (i) the amount payable for a confirmed case and; (ii) such sum as appears to be, having regard to any evidence provided by the owner of the animal slaughtered, to reflect the market value of the animal, subject to a maximum sum of £400 for each animal. The compensation rate has been determined by reference to the average cull ewe market price and the numbers of animals sold in Great Britain in the month of July 2000, as published in the Meat and Livestock Commission weekly UK Market Survey.
