A new survey indicates that over half of shoppers would prefer to use self-checkout in supermarkets to avoid long queues.

The survey, conducted in the London area by Marlin Research, revealed that 29% of people cited queues as the major shopping irritant. Over half (54%) believed that self-checkout – as opposed to in-aisle self-scanning – would save time, while 10% said it would give them greater privacy.

According to Retail Week, self-checkout systems are installed in more than 30 retail chains in the US, and have met with a high level of consumer acceptance.
