UK grocery retail group Somerfield has announced that Robin Whitbread, group buying and marketing director and Kwik Save managing director, has resigned and will be leaving the group with immediate effect.

Katie Bickerstaffe has been appointed group retail director and will take on responsibility for Kwik Save retail operations in addition to her current role as director of Somerfield stores and retail services.
The board said it will appoint a new buying director in the near future. In the interim, David Cheyne, group finance director, will take responsibility for group buying. Group marketing will report directly to Steve Back, chief executive.
