Board survey this year revealed that 75% of Americans believe that soya is
healthy, up from 59% in 1996.

Soya proteins from ADM, the world’s only full-line soyabean processor, are
now being used by some of the biggest names in the food industry. Companies
including Frito Lay, Kelloggs and Martha Gooch are capitalising on
increasing consumer demand, particularly since the FDA’s landmark approval
of health claims purporting to soya,


Food manufacturers are developing new products containing significant
quantities of soya protein, which permits the printing of the new health
claim on packaging. The consumption of 25 grams of soya protein per day, as
part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may help to reduce the
risk of heart disease.


Soya proteins are constantly being developed for a wide range of food
products, including vegetarian foods, cereals, dairy beverages, pasta and
meat products. The intensified development activity comes as statistics
reflect an increasing knowledge about, and acceptance of, soya in the
mainstream American diet.
