Abingdon, UK-based Sygen International, a company that focuses on applying genomics and biotechnology to animal breeding, has named Iain Ferguson as a non-executive director.

Ferguson is senior VP, corporate development, of Unilever and he will join the board on 1 July 2002. Over the last 15 years, he has held various senior positions within the Unilever Group, including chairman of Birds Eye Wall’s, chairman of Unilever Plantations and Plant Science Group and technical director of BOCM Silcock.
He is also a Commissioner on the UK Government’s Policy Commission on the Future of Farming and Food and a non-executive director of the British Nutrition Foundation and Rothamsted Experimental Station Limited. He also holds various trade positions including VP of the Institute of Grocery Distribution (from January 2003 he will be president).
Brian Baldock, Sygen’s chairman, said: “I am delighted to obtain the services of Iain to add to the strength of our non-executive team.”
