UK food group Symington’s has announced plans to close its recently-acquired Victoria Foods plant.

Symington’s acquired fellow baking firm Victoria Foods, a company that supplies products under licence for Nestle and Weight Watchers, in June.

It confirmed today (1 August) it had informed staff of plans to close Victoria Foods’ facility in Leigh in Lancashire and move production to one of its own plants in Bradford.

“Symington’s can confirm on the 16 July it announced the intention to launch a 90-day employee consultation process reg a closure a proposal to potenially discontinue activities at Victoria Foods in Leigh and establish a single, efficient and effective low-cost production centre at Symington’s Low Moor facility in Bradford,” the company said.

“The priority for Symington’s is now the people who are potentially affected by this processs and we will not be making further comment on this matter until the consultation process has been completed. We will be offering as much support as possible to our employees at this time.”

Symington’s acquisition of family-owned Victoria Foods gave it a business that supplies branded and own-label home baking products to UK suppliers. The Victoria Foods portfolio includes the Jane Asher Creations range of baking mixes that use Nestle confectionery brands under licence.
