UK food manufacturer Symington’s and local snacks maker Seabrook Crisps have launched a range of crisps made from bread.

Under the licensing agreement, the bread crisps are available in four variants, including Cheddar Cheese & Red Onion and Tangy BBQ. The crisps are made from pieces of bread and baked, Symington’s said.

The company added that it is targeting the sharing snack market, which is worth GBP638m (US$988.4m) and accounts for 35% of the total snacking category.

The food manufacturer said the crisps are a healthier option compared to normal crisps as a 25g serving is between 101 and 107 calories and low in saturated fat.

Symington’s marketing controller Andrew Wade said: “Bread crisps are healthier than many alternative snacks and the quirky packaging and design also means that they look stylish, both on the shelf and at home.”

The range is available in 100g tubes at Morrisons for a RRP of GBP1.69. The company added that the products will be rolled out to other retailers next year.
