Losses are expected from the company’s design planning department and several development manager positions.

A spokesperson for Tesco told just-food: “Every year as we finalise our budgets we review the work carried out in our offices to ensure that we are working as simply and efficiently as possible.

“This year we are focussing on investing in our stores and reducing prices for customers and to help us do this we are making changes that will affect a very small number of jobs in our offices.”

The retailer said it is “continually” investing in training and developing staff so that as jobs change people can move to different roles in the business.
