UK retail market leader Tesco has acquired the travel company First Call Leisure.


The supermarket has renamed the business Tesco Freetime. It already used the company to sell package holidays through its Club Card customer loyalty scheme. This is just the latest non-grocery move by the retailer, which recently revealed it would offer instore legal services.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Tesco Lotus, a joint venture between Tesco and Thailand’s CP Group, plans to add 2,500 employees by end-2002 to its 14,000-strong workforce. The retailer intends to have 20,000 workers on its payroll by 2004.
